BUREAU
VALLEY NORTH PROGRAM
for AFTER SCHOOL
STUDENTS
(BVN PASS)
Walnut has a very good
after school program that has been in existence
since 2001. The Bureau Valley North Program for
After School Students (BVN PASS) meets at Bureau
Valley North Elementary and Jr. High School from
September to May each school year.
The program, is
sponsored by the Walnut Chamber of Commerce, and
it’s
administrative
and fiscal agent is
the University of
Illinois Extension
Office – Bureau County,
BVN PASS
is open to any
Walnut student,
K-8, who would like to participate.
The emphasis of the
program is on homework tutoring and assistance,
nutrition education, organized physical activities,
as well as life skills lessons.
Registration for
students may be completed at the BVN school office
or by picking up registration documents at the PASS
IT ON store, located at 117 N. Main Street in
Walnut.
Cost of the program is
$4.00 per day, per student, although special fees
are available for families with several children
attending. (Scholarships are also available to
students who receive free or reduced lunches from
BVN School).
The program is run
with the assistance and cooperation of the Bureau
Valley North School and staff. It is supported
financially through private, business and community
donations, as well as the proceeds earned at
PASS IT ON,
a gently-used
clothing store, located in Walnut.
The Site Coordinator
of the program is Debbie Glaser Quinn, Helen Brokaw
is the Food and Nutrition Specialist and Becca
Roskens and Kelsey Jensen are the high school aged
tutors.
