BUREAU VALLEY NORTH PROGRAM

for AFTER SCHOOL STUDENTS

(BVN PASS)

Walnut has a very good after school program that has been in existence since 2001.  The Bureau Valley North Program for After School Students (BVN PASS) meets at Bureau Valley North Elementary and Jr. High School from September to May each school year.

The program, is sponsored by the Walnut Chamber of Commerce, and it’s administrative and fiscal agent is the University of Illinois Extension Office – Bureau County,  BVN PASS is open to any Walnut student, K-8, who would like to participate.

The emphasis of the program is on homework tutoring and assistance, nutrition education, organized physical activities, as well as life skills lessons.

Registration for students may be completed at the BVN school office or by picking up registration documents at the PASS IT ON store, located at 117 N. Main Street in Walnut.

Cost of the program is $4.00 per day, per student, although special fees are available for families with several children attending.  (Scholarships are also available to students who receive free or reduced lunches from BVN School).

The program is run with the assistance and cooperation of the Bureau Valley North School and staff.  It is supported financially through private, business and community donations, as well as the proceeds earned at PASS IT ON, a gently-used clothing store, located in Walnut.

The Site Coordinator of the program is Debbie Glaser Quinn, Helen Brokaw is the Food and Nutrition Specialist and Becca Roskens and Kelsey Jensen are the high school aged tutors.

Questions about the program or registration may be directed to Debbie Quinn at BVN School (815/379-2900) or cell phone (815)878-3668.
